Not Just Another Professional Organizer
Yes, I’m a Professional Organizer and I love what I do, but I’m more than that! I’m a wife, a mother, an anxious procrastinator, a home remodeler and a woman of faith (among other things). I not only want to share my expertise on organization, I also want to communicate life’s struggles, triumphs, and all the gooey, messy feelings that come along with it in hopes that it helps someone going through similar situations.
Let it Go!
There are tangible things around us that need organization and clutter that needs to be cleared away, but our Lives in general can get messy and out of order as well. This can translate into our physical spaces leaving us feeling depressed, anxious or hopeless. Sometimes, just putting our homes in order, the place where we live, unwind and raise our children, can help claim back some of our sanity.
So, what is it that holds us back from deciding once and for all to get it together? Why is it that that first step isn’t taken? Is it discontentment with a home’s layout, size, lack of storage, etc., or is it personal? Maybe there is something on the inside such as lethargy from depression or a feeling of overwhelm because of anxiety that leaves one exhausted and not caring what the house looks like. When we are depressed or anxious, there isn’t a whole lot of energy to put into home organization. lives are busy, schedules tight, and quite frankly, organizing your home can seem like a frivolous thing that shouldn’t warrant your attention. it could be that you feel like your schedule is just too full! There just isn’t enough time between work, running the kids around, school and community functions, and just the everyday stuff that must get done in order to get through another day. I get it! I’ve been in and out of each of these several times. how do we solve this conundrum?
Call it Back
Getting to the point of consent may take a little reflection. If you really stop and think about the why’s, you can get there with a few educated guesses. Chances are, the reasons go a little deeper than, “I hate my closet,” or “my kitchen has a terrible layout.” While these statements may be true, they aren’t keeping you from doing something about it. It may have nothing to do with your house, but something altogether different that you aren’t addressing. Taking some time to acknowledge them and deciding to resolve the issue(s) will be extremely helpful in all aspects of your life, not just home organization.
Think about what pulled you to your house in the first place. When you reclaim the reasons why you fell in love in the first place (or at least in like), you will be more content with your space and more willing to make some changes. You must have loved it at one point, or you wouldn’t be living there. Refocus your efforts in placing new organizational systems in an old space to reinvent a home that will help recall some of that joy.
If you do have some Anxiety or Depression that keeps you from getting or staying organized, just taking one small step each day towards the process will really help motivate you to do more. And, please, please, please! Talk to someone about how you are feeling, whether it’s family, friends, or a professional, knowing that you’re not alone and that you have people who care about you can be incredibly empowering!
The issue of not having enough time to organize seems to be a big factor in not getting started among many people. It’s true that we live in a crazy paced world with more things to do than could ever reasonably get done, but you don’t have to be that crazy person trying to do all the things all the time! Prioritize your day so you can schedule some time to organize, or delegate the organizing to a Professional Organizer like me!
