So, it’s time again to get out all the seasonal decor and wade through the bauble to decide which items you display this holiday. This may be a joyous occasion, or one that leaves you dreading the whole process. Having poor organization and lack of proper storage can suck out all of the fun! Hopefully, with these four tips for seasonal decluttering and storage solutions, you will be excited to festoon your home as the mood strikes you.
1. Get it Together
You may declutter all seasonal decor at once, or as you decorate for each season. Whatever makes more sense for you. Just make sure that you have all the decorations for that particular season together to ensure that nothing gets missed. You will also want to insist that each season is stored in separate containers that are clearly labeled for easy retrieval.
2. Toss the Loss
Toss any items that are worn, faded, or broken. Unless you aim to fix right away anything that is broken, assume that it will not be restored and part with it. There is no point in storing or hauling around broken decorations.
3. Keep What's Practical
As you decorate, consider those pieces that you pass on putting up occasionally because you don’t love it anymore, or it’s only kept for sentimental reasons. Those items that are sentimental, should be stored as such and not with the current decorations. Donate the knickknacks that are in good condition but no longer used or wanted.
4. Properly Store Your Decor
When it comes time to take down your decorations, make sure you plan not to be rushed so you are able to properly store your decorations It’s smart to keep like ornaments stored together so that they are easy to find for the next year. Wrap glass items and/or keep them separated in their own compartments to prevent breakage, and store the decorations in an air-tight container where the temperature is controlled. Following these steps will sustain your decorations for years to come.
